About Us

THE BOOKSHOP IS CLOSING FOR GOOD IN JULY 2017

The Bookshop opened its doors in 1985, as a partnership between two long-time booksellers in the Chapel Hill area. After more than 20 years, the store was sold in 2007 to Eric Johnson of San Jose, California. Eric and his staff continued the traditions of The Bookshop in Chapel Hill, adding new books and two cats (Elmo and Red) to the mix.

We have prided ourselves on the breadth and depth of our selection of books: scholarly books in the humanities, social sciences, and foreign languages, a rich supply of North Carolina and Southern history and literature, an abundance of fiction for children and adults, as well as a broad range of books in more than 90 different categories.

We have thoroughly enjoyed serving this community, and we thank you for your patronage over the last 30 years.

Because of our imminent closure, we are no longer buying books.

To those ordering books through our web site: Liquidation discounts will be applied at checkout. The liquidation discount applies only to the books purchased. Shipping costs will be charged at actual shipping rates.

PLEASE READ "BOOKSHOP NEWS" AND "BOOK BUYING" FOR  UPDATES ON OUR LIQUIDATION DISCOUNTS.
